How to press flowers properly?
Pressing flowers is not rocket science. A thick book and baking paper (or other absorbent paper) are all you need. Many of us encountered this method of pressing even in elementary school. However, if this activity has bypassed you, here is a GUIDE on how to do it:- Place 2 pieces of baking paper between the book pages.
- Arrange the plants on the paper and cover them with another two absorbent papers, to prevent the book from deteriorating.
Tip: If you want to print more flowers, you can place them in different places in the book. - Carefully close the book and use another book as a binder.
- Check the process every few days and replace the absorbent paper. This change is important to prevent the flowers from turning brown.
- In about 2 to 4 weeks the flowers will be pressed and ready for further use.
Warning:
A tweezer will help you with handling.
What flowers are suitable for pressing?
Meadow flowers or plants with small or flat flowers are ideal candidates for pressing. Large flowers, such as roses or peonies, can be taken apart and used individually.You also have to make sure that the flowers are not wet or wilted. They should be collected in dry and sunny weather. In this way, you will achieve the best possible and trouble-free process of pressing.
1. Blooming LANTERN
What completes the atmosphere of a summer evening more than the soft light of a lantern? It will stand out hung on the balcony and in the garden. The production is simple, even children can handle it.
What will you need to make the lantern?
- Jam glass jar
- pressed flowers
- liquid hobby glue
- twine
- led light (don't forget the batteries :)
P R O C E D U R E :
- Wash and degrease the jam jar thoroughly so that the glue holds well.
- Apply a thin layer of glue to the glass.
- Gradually place the pressed flowers on the glass until you are happy with the result. Apply glue to each flower so that it does not fall off.
- Finally, fix the dried flowers with one more layer of glue.
- Tie a twine to the top of the glass so that you can hang the candle holder from it. Make sure you tie the twine tightly enough.
- Insert the led lamp into the candle holder. All done :)
2. Bookmark with meadow flowers
Creating this bookmark is easier than it might seem at first glance. A practical and original helper, but also a nice gift that will surely please any bookworm.
WHAT WILL YOU NEED:
- Plastic transparent can (e.g. from vegetables)
or some other thick transparent plastic - paper
- our template
- marker
- scissors
- pressed flowers
- liquid hobby glue
- hole punch
- ribbon
P R O C E D U R E :
- Thoroughly wash and degrease the plastic can.
- Print our template on paper and cut it out.
- Trace the template twice on the plastic container with a marker and then cut it out.
- Paint the plastic rectangle with a thin layer of liquid hobby glue.
- Place the pressed flowers on the tab until we are happy with the result. Apply glue to each flower so that it does not fall off.
- Finally, fix the dried flowers with one more layer of glue.
- After the glue has dried, apply glue to the tab once more and attach the second plastic rectangle that we cut out to it. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly.
- Make a hole in the top part of the bookmark and tie a ribbon to it. All done

3. A memory that never fades

WHAT WILL YOU NEED:
- Glass photo frame
- photo
- pressed flowers
- liquid hobby glue
P R O C E D U R E :
- Degrease the glass on the frame so that the glue holds well.
- Stick the photo in the centre of the frame.
- Apply a thin layer of glue to the frame around the photo (where the flowers will be glued).
Our tip: You can arrange the flowers on the frame in front - i.e. before you put glue on it. This way you will have a better idea of how the final product will look. - Place pressed flowers on the glass one by one until you are happy with the result. Apply glue to each flower so that it does not fall off.
- Finally, you fix the dried flowers with one more layer of glue.
- After the glue dries, fold the photo frame. All done :)
Our tip:
On the back of the photo, you can add a description (e.g. the date and place of the photo) or write a dedication.
